Scripture – 2 Kings 18, Psalm 145 & Revelation 7-9
Observation – Psalm 145:7
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works.
Application – I love that I can find something in Psalms that applies to me every single day, it seems. I love when something about God is described as “kind”. There is definitely a reason that “kindness” is a fruit of the spirit. Jesus was kind. I had to look up the actual definition of kind…here we go:
- Main Entry:
- 2kind
- Function:
- adjective
- Date:
- 14th century
1chiefly dialect : affectionate, loving2 a: of a sympathetic or helpful nature b: of a forbearing nature : gentle c: arising from or characterized by sympathy or forbearance <a kind act>3: of a kind to give pleasure or relief
Anyway, my whole point to this is that I constantly tell Tatum that we need to be kind to people. If I feel like she’s giving off some 10-month old sassiness, I’m very quick to tell her that isn’t kind. I want my daughter to know what it is to be kind and show kindness. In our homestudy paperwork, in describing our household, I said something about how kindness is HUGE for me and how it’s very important for me to model that to my child(ren).Matt and I used to be kinder to each other and somehow that is more easily overlooked, especially when we don’t “feel” like being kind and we want to give off some early-30′s sassiness. Lord help us!
Prayer – Lord, I really do think that you show us kindness…often. You are full of grace and mercy. You are kind in all your works and I praise you for that! Please let kindness rule in our home. Even if we’re feeling cranky or tired, it’s not an excuse to be unkind or thoughtless. You are such a great example so please help us learn from you. Amen.
